Doña Urraca of León, also known as Urraca I of León and Castile (1080–1126), occupies a singular place in the history of medieval Spain. She was the first woman to rule the kingdoms of León and Castile in her own right, a remarkable achievement in an age when female sovereignty was rare and often contested.
